WHAT YOUR PSI MEANS ON YOUR POOL FILTER

WHY IS THE PRESSURE ON MY FILTER SO HIGH?

The pool probably has a lot of contaminants build up from the off-season. Your filter is doing its job by pulling out the dirt and debris. Whenever the pressure reaches 10psi over the “clean reading,” backwash or clean your pool filter. Depending on your filter type, you may need to do this twice a day.

WHY IS THE PRESSURE ON MY FILTER SO LOW?

Low filter pressure indicates low flow. This is almost always because the skimmer baskets or pump basket need to be cleaned. Later in the season, you may only have to do this once a week. However, during this time of year, with trees budding and leaves blowing in, you may have to clean your baskets once a day or more. Low flow can also be caused by a clogged pump impeller. This will happen when very small debris (like pine needles) gets through the holes (or a crack) in the baskets. Use Skim-mor Skimmer Socks to help prevent this problem.
